When we first set out to create the FoodTech 500, we wanted to develop the definitive list of the top 500 companies shaping the future of food. Thanks to an overwhelming amount of support, the FoodTech 500 was born with its first edition in 2019. Showcasing innovations from AgriFoodTech companies across the globe, it set the bar incredibly high for this year’s list.

It is our ambition that the FoodTech 500 becomes the Fortune 500 of AgriFoodTech, a list of top innovators and disruptors in the industry and also the go-to leaders of this emergent and ever-evolving sector.

Now in its fourth edition, the FoodTech 500 has gathered more than 7500+ applications from AgriFoodTech startup & scaleup companies globally, onboarded 50+ Media Partners and reached 180+ countries in terms of applications received. Since 2019 it continues to raise awareness about the AgriFoodTech sector, the key challenges that our Global Food System is facing and the entrepreneurs who work hard to improve it every day.

The methodology and the scoring mechanism behind the FoodTech 500 blends human vetting with tech-powered data crunching, resulting in the full-ranked FoodTech 500 list. To learn more about the methodology, visit this page.

Over the last decade, AgriFoodTech companies have been receiving increasingly large amounts of money from investors worldwide. To stay true to our mission of showcasing the ‘FoodTech underdogs’  and with a growing number of companies surpassing $100 million in funding raised to date which get featured on the 2022 FoodTech 500 list we felt we needed to create a way to help users to identify them. With a significant amount of funding at their disposal, these companies can afford to spend more on research and development, expand their workforce, and even acquire other companies to accelerate their path to success. To acknowledges these companies’ achievements and separate them from the more early-stage players, we created ‘The FoodTech $100 Million Club’. As the name suggests, this new category comprises startup and scaleup companies that surpassed the $100 Million mark in funding to date and are making big waves in the industry. On the 2022 FoodTech 500 list, these outliers will be identified by a distinctive C-shaped mark, and in future iterations, they will have their very own ranking.
