It’s time to put a face to the name…

We asked our FoodTech 500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Nicolas and Cyril, the power-duo behind Pourdebon.com, a French Marketplace of +300 high-quality French producers and farmers that sells +8000 fresh products – in short circuit – directly to consumers. Let’s see what the founders had to say.

So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?

Nicolas and Cyril: The idea comes from a discussion we had in 2015 with the CEO of Chronopost, the French UPS/Fedex. Chronopost decided to launch Express Food Delivery for fresh products all around France (today known as ChronoFresh) and were thinking of how to leverage the internet to develop this new activity. We came up with this farmers marketplace idea and they decided to finance the beginning of the project, and ask us to find another partner (Webedia) to help us bring Pourdebon to what it is now.

How is tech central to your business?

Nicolas and Cyril: As a pure player, tech is obviously central, we run our marketplace with a Symfony framework and a SaAS solution to run the marketplace for vendors.

Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?

Nicolas and Cyril: Tech is everywhere now, and mature enough to help Farmers doing things simpler, smarter and greener than before.
