We asked our FoodTech500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Glenn and Philippe, the founding duo behind Alberts, a company that produces smoothie-robots that prepare fresh, personalized smoothies on the spot using 100% natural ingredients. Let’s see what they had to say.

So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?

Glenn and Philippe: We both excelled at being your typical student: we were always busy and efforts to eat healthily were often in vain. Going on an inspirational trip to New York, we had a change of heart and quickly realized it would be our last holiday for a long time. Hopping from smoothie bar to smoothie bar to do “market research”, we realized that regular smoothies were not as healthy as they are thought to be. Combining our entrepreneurial spirit with our technological background, the solution was soon evident: a robotized smoothie vending machine for personalized smoothies.

How is tech central to your business?

Glenn and Philippe: We combine robotics and AI to create a hassle-free and personalized food experience. Our smoothie robots prepare your smoothie from scratch. Our mobile app is your health coach, recommending you the right smoothie at the right time, just as you like it.

Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?

Glenn and Philippe: Technology can help people make healthier choices. When the healthy choice becomes the most evident one, we will have reached our goal.
