Ittinsect has rebranded to Ocean Twist Biotechnology, reflecting its growth into a biotech-driven circular protein company. The rebrand supports the company’s mission to deliver sustainable, high-performance protein solutions for aquaculture and animal feed, reducing reliance on traditional ingredients like fishmeal and soy.

 

Transforming Aquaculture with Biotech-Driven Protein Solutions

Ocean Twist Biotechnology, formerly known as Ittinsect, is making waves in the industry by producing high-performance protein concentrates using cutting-edge biotech processes. As demand for fish and seafood continues to surge, traditional fishmeal production—which relies on harvesting wild fish for feed—has placed significant strain on our oceans, contributing to overfishing and disrupting marine biodiversity.

Ocean Twist Biotechnology sources circular materials, including agricultural side streams like plant-based presscakes and insect-derived ingredients, to create innovative alternatives to conventional feed components. Their protein concentrates aim to replace resource-intensive ingredients such as fishmeal and soy in animal and aquaculture feed—paving the way for more sustainable and scalable feeding solutions.

Alessandro Romano, CEO of Ocean Twist Biotechnology, shared the driving force behind the rebrand:

“We identified a large gap in the market: fishmeal demand is rising very fast, but its availability is limited. Most novel proteins have technical limits that prevent large-scale inclusion in livestock and fish feed, meaning they can’t fully replace fishmeal.”

The rebranding of Ittinsect to Ocean Twist Biotechnology isn’t just a new name—it’s a renewed commitment to alleviating pressure on marine ecosystems.
