Lockdown Tips: The Top 5 Helpful Activities by our Food Tech Community

change is coming - how to survive covid 19 lockdown (tips)

As another week of lockdown and working from home passes, we’re all starting to adjust to life in our “new normal”.

Whether it’s working from the kitchen table, juggling homeschooling the kids with working full time, or switching your face to face meetings for virtual ones, we’re all having to adapt to this new situation pretty quickly.

We wanted to understand what activities were helping you through and keeping you sane in this time of change? What are the new and mainstay activities that are helping you to “keep calm and carry on” during lockdown?

After polling our Global FoodTech Startup Community, the results were pretty consistent. So, here are some tips to survive lockdown: the top 5 activities that have been keeping you focused on the positives and looking forward.

today I am grateful: one tip for surviving lockdown

1.Virtual Meetings with Colleagues, Friends and Family

Whether it’s breakfast team meetings taken as zoom calls, House Party with your friends or calling your family on facetime. Staying connected is the number one thing helping us get through COVID-19 lockdown. We are social beings, and we are adapting our connection habits regardless of age, demographic is certainly keeping us going. Top tip – lock your zoom or house party so you don’t get surprise guests popping in for unexpected visits!

2. Positive Thinking and Gratitude

At number two we have positivity and an attitude of gratitude. The key to helping you stay calm and grounded is maintaining a positive mindset and focusing on all you have to be thankful for right now rather than all that has changed.

3. Routine and having a Structure to your Day

Number 3 among lockdown tips is sticking to a routine and ensuring your day has structure to it. We know it is all too easy to stay in your PJ’s (or only dress your top half) when working from home, but you’re finding that keeping the daily routine of getting up and getting dressed for work helps you keep things in check. Whether it’s sticking to a time for your daily exercise, or taking regular breaks to help you keep focused; being organised with your time and schedule is helping you keep working from home working for you.

4. Exercise

At number 4 we have exercise. Whether that’s popping out for a run if your lockdown guidelines allow it, switching your gym workout for an online version, or taking some online yoga classes as a way of winding down; exercise is helping you sweat it out and shake it off. As well as boosting your immune system, exercise reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that are the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators, helping you stay fit, healthy and positive as well.

5. Learning New Things

Last in our list of lockdown tips, at number 5 is learning new things. Have you always wanted to learn the Ukulele like our CEO Alessio? Well, now is the time. We have more “time” on our hands, and even more access to courses, freebies, lessons and webinars than ever. Fancy a free concert with a major musician, a virtual visit to a museum or zoo, a childs entertainer putting on a show, or even studying at Harvard or Princeton? Now is the time as the world’s most exclusive places, shows and educators open their doors and welcome the world with open arms.

So there you have it, a round-up of the Top 5 ways Food Tech companies are keeping themselves calm and carrying on during Coronavirus.
