Indoor Farming: Growing Fresh Greens in Your Kitchen | a Virtual Fireside Chat with Agrilution co-founder and CEO Max Loessl

Indoor vertical farming built-in appliances for your kitchen. That sounds like the future! So we spoke with Agrilution co-founder and CEO Max Lössl to find out more about it.
AGRILUTION
In 2019 Agrilution ranked in the top 10 of The FoodTech 500, powered by Forward Fooding.
Inspired by Vertical Farming and with the vision to harvest the freshest and most nutritious greens as close as possible to the points of consumption, this startup has started a real revolution.
On may 12th 2020, our CEO Alessio D’Antino interviewed Agrilution Co-Founder and CMO Max Lössl in a virtual fireside chat.
Max is an internationally requested speaker on the subject of vertical farming. He is also the Co-Founder & Advisory Board Member at the Association for Vertical Farming.
They dug deep into Vertical Farming, the latest AgriFoodTech trends, and shared advice and tips for the Food Tech startup community.
You can watch the full interview below or listen to the podcast.
Indoor Vertical Farming
The AgriFoodTech sector is continuously evolving and more and more players are entering the scene. That is especially the case with the world of vertical farming and indoor farming. In fact, by bringing science, technology, and innovation to the next level, vertical farming and indoor farming have now become a consolidated reality.
Max gave us the opportunity to understand more deeply how Agrilution managed to lead a real revolution in the food tech sector. They showed the entire world that indoor vertical farming is not just a utopian idea and it can be brought to our homes.
Agrilution’s mission is to bring fresh greens into your kitchen. And their latest vertical farming technology allows you to easily grow your own herbs & salads.
GROWING FRESH GREENS DIRECTLY INTO YOUR KITCHEN
Agrilution’s latest product is Plantcube. This is a smart indoor garden in which you can grow your own lettuce, microgreens and herbs on eight fields. From Asian delicacies like Mizuna to heirloom varieties that are not available in the supermarket, Plantcube offers a varied selection of Greens for your daily dose of vitamins.
Maximilian Lössl grew up as the son of a development aid worker in China and experienced early on the contrast between technical comfort and deepest poverty and malnutrition.
This is why the idea of vertical farming, and more specifically indoor farming at home, immediately excited him.
In fact, it gave him the vision to bring this revolutionary concept into every home. His goal is to create a perfect ecosystem that allows everyone to grow their own nutrient-rich plants in the future.
He co-founded Agrilution in 2013 in Munich together with co-founder Philipp Wagner. They have built up a team of 17 scientists, technicians and sales people for the development of the sustainable indoor greenhouse, the Plantcube.
MIELE’S ARRIVAL ON THE SCENE
Furthermore, Max explained how their strategic partnership with Miele enabled the company to overcome a critical moment.
The german corporate’s long term vision and expertise in the sector represent a powerful improvement to Agrilution’s engine. In this regard, Max said:
“We also talked to other companies in the environment. But with Miele we found the best alignment in terms of vision, values and the direction we really want to head into.”
Moreover, Miele demonstrated strategic intelligence by giving the startup the possibility to keep their operational and managerial independence.
As a result, this interesting synergy could represent a starting point for the future deals in the sector. This is indeed a great example of a 120 year-old corporate giving its contribution, both economically and strategically, without compromising the startup’s flexibility and operational agility.
