On the 21st of November 2018 Food Tech Matters, a satellite conference part of Food Matters Live 2018, took place at ExCel London for the very first time.

With a focus on scaling up innovative technologies that support the development of sustainable, nutritious food and drink, Food Tech Matters was the first of a series of events bringing together innovative entrepreneurs with corporate executives, business accelerators and investors to explore the latest trends and developments in this space.

As a partner of the event, at Forward Fooding we were pleased to bring to life the Food Tech Lab, a dedicated space to showcase the latest innovations and foodtech related developments from top-notch international companies ranging from 3D printers for food through alternative packaging, smart appliances, personalized nutrition, including Nutrifix, EZLab, Higher Steaks, Foodini, Winnow Solutions, Mimica Lab, CricketLab, Almond & Magellan Life Science.

The agenda included some interesting keynotes and panel discussions with industry experts, startup founders, investors & corporate executives. Some of this year’s edition themes included: Novel Ingredients & Nutraceuticals, Human Microbiome, Personalized Nutrition, Alternative Proteins, Sustainable Supply Chain, AI & Robotics and Sustainable Packaging Technologies amongst others.

This event kicked off with a welcome speech from Thimo V. Schmitt-Lord MBE, CEO of Bayer Foundations, followed by Ivan Farneti from Five Seasons Venture who gave an overview of the European FoodTech Investment landscape.

The session continued with the Sue Nelson, CEO of Nelson Group, author of ‘FoodTech UK’ and head of TLA FoodTech who shared her insights on the Uk ecosystem and highlighted some of the major foodtech trends she sees will play a pivotal role in the coming years. The day carried on with inspiring startups pitches from Crackers Resurrection, 3F Bio, Check Your Food and Biotrack, Azotic Technologies, EDERNA, Cricket Lab, Smeal and Youmeal.

Last but not least, the conference finished with a very engaged panel discussion about food tech investment trends, the state of the art of corporate-startup collaboration in the food and beverage industry and how key players within the ecosystem are reacting to the food startup revolution with our founder alessio dantino, Kevin Camphuis from Shake Up Factory, Lynette Kucsma from Natural Machines, Mark Buckley from ANJA GmbH, and Johan Jörgensen from Sweden Foodtech.
