Earth-friendly menu at our Barcelona’s FoodTech Innovation Hub

At Forward Fooding we care about the future of our planet and that’s why part of our mission is to support startup and scaleup companies that use innovative technology to develop new products that promote change towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly world. According to FAO, 50% of the world’s food production may be lost due to environmental degradation by 2050 if we do not take action. And 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions are caused by the food system, more than half coming from animal farming. Climate change, water stress, invasive pests, and land degradation can affect global food security. On the occasion of this year’s Earth day (22 of April 2021) we’re launching within our Food & FoodTech Innovation hub in Barcelona a new initiative to give visibility to some of our hub members and other fellow FoodTech companies committed to protect our planet.
Have you ever wondered how Earth Day began?
The first Earth Day was celebrated on 22 April 1970, when San Francisco activist John McConnell and Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson separately called on Americans to join a grassroots demonstration. They established this day to create a common awareness of the problems of overpopulation, pollution production, biodiversity conservation, and other environmental concerns to protect the Earth. It is a day to pay homage to our planet and to recognise the Earth as our home and our mother, as expressed by different cultures throughout history, demonstrating the interdependence between its many ecosystems and the living beings that inhabit it.
How we celebrated in our Barcelona FoodTech Innovation Hub
Today, Earth Day is not only a day intended to raise awareness of environmental issues, but it is also becoming a popular time for many communities to come together to clean up litter, plant trees, or simply reflect on the beauty of nature. In the Barcelona Food & FoodTech Innovation Hub, we have decided to celebrate Earth Day by creating an environmentally friendly weekly menu, partnering with our friends from La Marmitería Café. This menu combines sustainable products from some of our Food & FoodTech Innovation hub’s members and other fellow FoodTech companies such as Heura, Robin Good, Ethics Coffee, Devon Garden, Pink Albatros, and Azada. With this initiative, we want to celebrate our earth day and make a dent to protect it by making this menu available every day starting from our cafeteria and expanding it to other locations across Spain soon.
