Adapting to COVID 19: 10 Food Tech Companies coping with Coronavirus
As the Coronavirus global pandemic continues, we have been busy reaching out to our global network and food tech startup community. We wanted to understand how food tech startup companies are adapting to Covid 19 and what action they are taking to keep moving forwards.
It was amazing to see the brilliant business solutions that these companies put in place. In fact, the results show the true food tech entrepreneurial spirit in action, and that times of change create times of food tech innovation.
From taking swift decisions to pivot, and innovating to develop new products and services to meet consumers’ and customers’ needs, to taking the opportunity to think differently about your business model.
Here is a brief snapshot of how the Food Tech community is adapting, surviving and thriving during Covid 19.
Miap
MIAP: Order and pay in 30 seconds at your favourite establishments
“We have developed very quickly a “Click and Collect” version of our app, to help restaurants to continue their activity while respecting the government’s instructions during the Coronavirus emergency. We are also offering our solution for free during the crisis, in order to support the ecosystem.”
Pricepally
PricePally: An online store that allows you to shop bulk items with your family and friends so you can enjoy deep discounts on the prices of food and daily needs
“The covid 19 crisis has made Pricepally very popular. People have been searching where to buy food in bulk and we just happen to be their best option. They can buy in bulk and share bulk. Our sales have significantly increased and we are collaborating with CcHUB (the foremost technology hub in Africa) to help fight the virus. We are working to be able to help people get food items even in the case of a lockdown.
We initially had issues with logistics and cost, which has resulted in partnerships with other logistic companies. Our common goal was to fight the covid 19 pandemic together. This has enabled us to form strategic alliances.”
Agtools
Agtools Inc: Connecting the Supply Chain
“Despite the covid 19 crisis, we’ve increased sales with a new product line. This is because we operate in the food & agriulture supply chain.”
AgroBlock
AgroBlock: Blockchain-Powered Agricultural Traceability Platform
“We are focusing more on development & improvement of the product during this uncertain time.”
Genesis Feed Technologies
Genesis Feed Technologies: Ingredient purchasing software for feed producers who believe high-quality ingredients drive profitability.
“We are adapting to the covid 19 crisis by expanding on virtual training. This is something we were going to do anyway, but now our main customer is expanding efforts in that area.”
Teuko
Teuko: Teuko is the one-stop resource for families packing lunch
“Schools are closed because of Coronavirus, so parents don’t pack lunch boxes anymore. However, we are providing easy lunch ideas and tips instead of lunch boxes.”
Whywaste AB
Whywaste AB: Reduce food waste at your store through data-driven solutions
“We are adapting to Coronavirus times by keeping ourselves in front of mind with our clients. We are shining a light on the positive stories coming from our clients. Especially, we like to show how chains in Sweden are helping vulnerable customers keep their cupboards full.
Beyond this, we are highlighting how our solutions can help the retailers with their process efficiency in this tricky time.”
Nibs etc.
nibs etc.: making delicious, and nourishing sustainable snacks out of ingredients that would normally be thrown away
“This uncertain time is forcing us to focus on our online shop, develop new revenue streams and create content to support and strengthen our community.”
Fibervita
FIBERVITA: Multifunctional ingredients adding performance and healthiness to the products of the food industry and animal nutrition.
“We built up some stock prior to Coronavirus in Brazil, and we are regularly delivering urgent sales (outsourced transportation) and dispatching samples. The remaining activities are being done at home and production has been shut down.”
Fresh Check
Fresh Check: revolutionising the way we understand safety, by providing the first affordable method to test surfaces for bacterial, chemical and food debris with a simple colour change
“Hygiene has become significantly more important to the whole world, also in light of the covid 19 crisis. Working in hygiene testing has previously been quite a niche, but now our technology has applicability to everyone. This has provided a boost to our business’s awareness.
However, because of Coronavirus the food industry is taking fewer risks than ever. As a consequence, the global awareness of hygiene requirements has skyrocketed. Awareness & grant availability has become much better for us.”
