Andrea Cova, founder of Soul-K
It’s time to put a face to the name…
We asked our FoodTech500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Andrea, the man behind Soul-K, a service that allows professionals in the HO.RE.CA. sector and L.O.D. to act faster, deliver better quality, improve margins and increase accessibility at scale by offering both fresh semi-prepared food ingredients and complete prepared meals. Let’s see what they had to say.
So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?
Andrea: I’ve been working in the food industry for over 10 years and created Soul-K to meet the needs of today’s modern food businesses which must be: more efficient, more flexible, have higher margins and be able to scale their business. End consumers today are voting with their wallets and smart phones and food businesses can expect as much as 30% of their revenue from delivery services such as Deliveroo, Glovo and Uber eats. They have to provide a quality experience because reviews on Trip Advisor, Yelp or Facebook can make or break their business. And they have to constantly provide fresh, sustainable and healthy options In order to meet these needs, food businesses all share common problems: calculating the real cost of food, offering fresh local and healthy options, tracking and reducing food waste, managing high personnel costs and succeeding in a crowded market, while being able to scale their business.
How is tech central to your business?
Andrea: It is a 100% fundamental part of our offering. We create semi-prepared ingredients enabled by hardware tools and software microservices.
Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?
Andrea: Today’s food businesses have begun to recognize that their success as a business depends upon how well they integrate technology into their daily operations, driven in part by consumers’ demands for a more individual experience. New levels of food manufacturing efficiencies provide hope for the future of food production, while recent investments in new technology-driven models will continue to improve the ways consumers can personalize what and how they eat food.
