Laureen Asseo, the founder of Fresh n’ Lean
It’s time to put a face to the name…
We asked our FoodTech 500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Laureen, the person behind Fresh n’ Lean, a meal-delivery service that supplies organic, fresh, and ready-to-eat meals in the US. Let’s see what she had to say.
So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?
Laureen: While studying apparel manufacturing at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising my father’s health declined. Switching his diet reversed his high cholesterol and weight gain in a matter of ninety days. Seeing that change made me want to seek out a solution for not only him but other Americans as well.
How is tech central to your business?
Laureen: All of our orders are placed online and we use VSP technology to preserve the quality of our meals. This technology also makes it to where our trays are more compact so it reduces the footprint of our boxes and in turn our carbon footprint.
Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?
Laureen: I think it’s important because tech is constantly evolving and making people’s lives easier. The food industry needs to evolve with it or we will fall behind on better environmental practices, food safety practices, etc.
