Meet Javier from Biogenetics, one of the FoodTech 500 winners
An interview with Javier Gamboa, founder of Biogenetics, one of Forward Fooding’s top 500 Food Tech startups.

It’s time to put a face to the name…
We asked our FoodTech 500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Javier, Founder of Biogenetics, whose product GENOMID allows anyone at any time to verify the authenticity and real properties of food on their smartphone. Let’s see what the founder had to say.
So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?
Javier: We begun working with local producers from the Basque Countries with well known and reputed products, in some cases even under the EU protected name schemes, who needed to differentiate their products to add value to them, or differentiate them from imported products produced under other conditions of costs, taxes pressure and sustainability, to be able to compete and preserve their existence and indirectly of their endangered rural environments.
How is tech central to your business?
Javier: Our business is focused on a disruptive proprietary technology based on genomics that allows generating a unique scannable identifier from an optimized genetic fingerprint.
Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?
Javier: We develop and offer an innovative, DNA-based system for food traceability and genetic selection and enhancement, named GENOMID.
GENOMID allows anyone to verify the authenticity and real properties of food on their smartphones. GENOMID simplifies quality control, adds value to products and reduces losses and market damages due to fraud.
The GENOMID technology is a disruptive step in improving the activity of all involved stakeholders from farm to table. Adding value and differentiating the genuine products, simplifying and optimizing the quality control of raw products of the food industry and allowing consumers to regain confidence thanks to the capability of analytically verifying the authenticity of the food’s nature and properties.
