Dr. Julia Köhn, the founder of PIELERS
It’s time to put a face to the name…
We asked our FoodTech500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Julia, the person behind PIELERS, an online marketplace for fresh, farm produce. Let’s see what she had to say.
So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?
Julia: I love good food – ideally straight from the farm, because it is really fresh and delicious and I support the local farmers. We developed pielers.de to make ordering farm food easy for everyone.
How is tech central to your business?
Julia: PIELERS is a cloud-based operating platform for farmers and food producers. We use tech to make selling and ordering fresh farm food easy, in order to enable intelligent food supply for everyone.
Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?
Julia: PIELERS is part of a global effort for a sustainable and technology-oriented food supply. Only in a “tech first” food industry, can we overcome global challenges like climate change, ocean pollution, hunger or soil burnout. According to the United Nations, 9 out of 16 global development goals can be reached by using already existing data for optimizing global food supply.
