It’s time to put a face to the name…

We asked our FoodTech 500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Lorenzo and Valerio, the power-duo behind YouFarmer, revolutionizing the fruit and vegetable supply chain by delivering organic, fresh and safe products from farms that are close to the urban centers, and using technology to track and audit food chains in real time. Let’s see what the founders had to say.

So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?

Lorenzo and Valerio: YouFarmer was born to respond and give a solution to the poor quality of the products on the market, from the need to be able to buy healthy and safe products, to reduce the impacts that conventional agriculture causes to our planet and to give a fair recognition to farmers who work hard and are constantly being exploited.

How is tech central to your business?

Lorenzo and Valerio: We use tech first of all to disintermediate the current supply chain and put customers in direct contact with the farm. Secondly, by applying probes and technology to the fields, we can guarantee and certify the quality of the products we consume.

Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?

Lorenzo and Valerio: Because without technology there is no progress and without progress there is no destiny. In particular, the world of agriculture and food in general has great responsibilities towards the environment and people and must improve and protect having the mission of always being at the forefront. We are currently starting to do a lot, but it is not enough, we need to shorten the distances and allow all actors in the supply chain to speak the same language and have the same objectives in common.
