Tarryn Gorre and Kim Antoniou, the founders of Kafoodle
It’s time to put a face to the name…
We asked our FoodTech500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Tarryn Gorre and Kim Antoniou, the two lovely ladies behind Kafoodle, a tool that develops award-winning food management software for professionals in the catering industry as well as in the education and care sectors. Let’s see what they had to say.
So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?
Tarryn: The two of us had been friends for a few years before Kim’s husband had a near-tragic experience with a sesame allergy in a restaurant. We spoke about wanting to communicate all food information more clearly to diners so that people could be safe when eating out. I wanted to support chefs in managing their costs and recipes in commercial kitchens as well as look at how nutrition could help create healthier habits. Thus Kafoodle was born! An end to end solution that tracks all food information from parsnip to plate.
How is tech central to your business?
Tarryn: We are a B2B, Software as a Service (SaaS) company selling compliance software to all types of commercial kitchens. We don’t only just build tech products but we use various technical tools from Slack to Zoom to AWS to be able to build our company and keep our team aligned.
Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?
Tarryn: There is a huge rising trend in consumers wanting to know what’s in their food and this is easy to do with the correct use of technology. I also believe that if food businesses embrace all types of tech it will help them manage costs from food to staff allowing them to stay afloat in a very pressurized environment.
We hope that, by being able to communicate healthy food options, food businesses will be able to increase their sales or appeal to diners with allergens and help them create a new loyal following.
