In its fifth year, the FoodTech 500 has included 53 AgriFoodTech Startups and Scaleups from the Asia and Pacific region among this year’s finalists. 

After featuring trailblazers from LATAM, our attention now turns to the up-and-coming APAC AgriFoodTech startups featured in the FoodTech500.

APAC is a diverse region that is home to about 60% of the world’s population. With a large population, migration, and increasing urbanization, food security remains a top priority for the region. By 2030, population growth, urbanization, and economic expansion in Asia and the Pacific are projected to significantly boost food production and demand.

However, rising temperatures, shifting precipitation patterns, and extreme climate events like heatwaves, droughts, and typhoons will continue to be significant factors influencing agricultural productivity, especially in South, Southeast, and Central Asia. This is why innovations in tech, policies, and investments are becoming even more crucial for the AgriFood system in APAC.  

Our FoodTech Data Navigator tracks 1,213 startups and scaleup companies among the 2,815 industry actors from the region. AgriFoodTech activities in APAC have been heavily focused on AgTech (356 companies), Next-Gen Food and Drink (261 companies), and Food Delivery (255 companies). Since 2014, about €62.6B in investments have been poured into the region.
