It’s time to put a face to the name…

We asked our FoodTech 500 top-runners to give us a bit of insight into how they started out as a company and their thoughts on the role of technology in Food innovation. Meet Pierre and Rodrigo, the power-duo behind Notpla, a sustainable seaweed packaging company. Let’s see what they had to say.

So tell us a little bit more about you! Where did the idea for your FoodTech company come from?

Pierre and Rodrigo: We met during our master’s at the Royal College of Art in London. We started prototyping Ooho in our kitchen, trying to find a way to replace plastic packaging with a material that is abundant in nature.

How is tech central to your business?

Pierre and Rodrigo: Tech allows us to harness the power of natural materials and tailor it for sustainable packaging.

Why do you think it’s important to see the food industry embrace tech?

Pierre and Rodrigo: Food has a massive footprint and it’s something everyone relates to so it should naturally be an industry where tech is seen as a natural tool to improve and delight the people on this planet.
